Summer is six long weeks of pure joy for kids. Well it should be, and at Greenslate we want to make it that way. So, we have put together a set of events that will get them out of the house, and spark their imagination.
These events were very popular last year, and places are limited, so booking is essential. If you want to book a place click onto the dates you want below.
These events are for 5-11 year olds. If your child is between 1 & 5 check out our Toddler Tuesday events.
What is it like to work on a farm? Do you think your children would love to know the answer?
Feeding sheep, collecting the eggs, sowing seeds, and getting to see how the farm works. These are all the things that kids get to do when they become ‘farmer for a day.’
Summertime is the peak of the growing season, and the best time to be on the farm. Kids should be outdoors experiencing something new, not sat at home looking at a screen. Give your’s this unique experience this summer and they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.
Farmer for a day runs from 1pm to 4pm for ages 5-11 years. The cost is £10 per child, which includes refreshments and all materials. Places must be booked through the farm’s website.
Most of the animals that live on our farm have four legs, occasionally two; I’m thinking chickens here, not humans. But, there are lots of other little criters out there, and they outnumber us all many times over.
A Bio Blitz is an event that lets us concentrate on all those other creatures. Teams roam the farm trying to find and identify as many bugs, birds and bees as they can. There is a whole other world around us that we ignore most of the time, and that’s our loss. Let your kids explore this wonderful world with the help of our staff and volunteers. It will be a real eye opener that leaves your child with a better appreciation of nature, no matter how small, or how many legs it has.
Bio Blitz runs from 1pm to 4pm for ages 5-11 years. The cost is £10 per child, which includes refreshments and all materials. This event must be booked through the farm’s website.
Ask your kids, they will tell you; there’s going to be a Zombie Apocalypse one day, it’s bound to happen.
Anyway, even without a Zombie Apocalypse, learning how to take care of yourself in the wild might not be a bad thing. And being outside hiding in the woods is a far healthier than sitting looking at a screen.
There will be lots of practical bush craft training things happening in this little training camp. Things like cooking on fires, making shelters, foraging for food. But don’t forget, there will be Zombies out there paying the camp a visit now and again. Knowing how to deal with them will also be useful.
Zombie Apocalypse training camp isn’t for kids of a nervous disposition, but it’ll be some of the best fun they ever have. Zombie Apocalypse training runs from 1pm to 4pm for ages 5-11 years. The cost is £10 per child, which includes refreshments and all materials. Places are available for 30 children per session. Booking is essential via our website.
Your kids can probably tell you all about wizards, but have they done any of the ‘practical’ training? In the Greenslate Woodlands, they get to give it a go, outside, in the fresh air.
The Wizards Woodland Workshop is a session all about wizardry and magic. We will be making magic wands, potions, doing an edible scavenging hunt. Then there will be learning about the magical history and myths of trees, building a dragon, and using our magical potions to bring it to life!
Have you heard the myth about the Greenslate buried treasure? Rumour has it, pirates from Orrell Water Park took to the woods at Greenslate Farm to hide their stash.
Rather than sitting in front of a computer screen this summer, perhaps your kids would like to try and find the treasure?
The Treasure Trail is an intensive orienteering trail. Teams have to work together to follow the pirate’s map to find and solve the clues. There will be secret codes to break and challenges to complete if they’re to find the buried treasure.
Treasure Trail runs from 1pm to 4pm for ages 5-11 years. The cost is £10 per child, which includes refreshments and all materials. Places are available for 30 children per session. Booking is essential via our website.
