Learn 'Nordic Walking' at Greenslate Community Farm

In case you missed it earlier in the year, here is another chance to get started with ‘Nordic Walking.’

Nordic Walking started as a training discipline in the 1930’s, for cross-country skiers to keep fit during the summer when there wasn’t any snow. It gives a whole body workout that exercises 90% of your body muscles, whereas normal walking only works about 50% of the body’s muscles.

Janine Ashall has been teaching Nordic Walking for three years and is trained and accredited as a ‘fully qualified Nordic Walking instructor.’

Janine is also a qualified sports instructor with a degree in sports science from Liverpool University.

Nordic Walking can be as easy or as vigorous as you want it to be, with a short health disclaimer to be completed and signed for at the start of a beginners session. People that attend Janine’s sessions are of all fitness levels and aged from 30+ into their 80’s; she even has some people with hip replacements.

If you have never tried Nordic Walking before, Janine runs beginners sessions that are one and a half hours long and cost £15.00 per session. Regular sessions are about one hour long and cost £5.00 per session.

Janine will be offering a starter session at Greenslate Farm on Saturday 27th October 2018.

Equipment: Poles provided
Short health disclaimer to fill in
Clothing: Wear layers, waterproofs
Footwear: Sturdy trainers/lightweight boots.
